Mineo’s was a neighborhood meat market founded in 1920 by John Mineo. He quickly earned a reputation for making fine fresh Italian Sausage. In 1951, Mr. Mineo was joined by his son-in-law, Ralph Sapio, and the meat market became known as Mineo & Sapio Meats. In 1957, Mr. Sapio became the sole proprietor and maintained not only the market’s name, but its reputation for the finest Italian Sausage in Western New York.

With the emergence of large grocers who offered one-stop shopping, and the increased popularity of the fast food business in the early 1960's, Ralph Sapio realized he needed to change his business to accommodate the public’s changing buying habits. He targeted the fast food industry as potential customers, but discovered that Italian Sausage was not suited for them because of the time it took to cook the sausage. He then developed an Italian Sausage patty made with the same demanding standards Mr. Mineo established over 40 years earlier, that offered the portion control, convenience and quality the fast food industry demanded. Following the success of this new sausage product, customer demand prompted the development of another new product, a high quality Italian meatball.

Today we are known as Mineo & Sapio Italian Sausage, and we are still in tune with the needs of our customers. We offer many varieties of products available fresh, or pre-cooked for those customers requiring the convenience of a time-saving product. In addition, Mineo & Sapio manufacturers “Healthy Goodness”, a line of low-fat chicken products.
